1.  Is it possible to charge a device with scottyPro, e.g. a mobile, directly after purchase?

No, scottyPro is not delivered with batteries. New batteries must be inserted first.

  1. Does the varying current consumption/charging rate cause Memory Effect problems?
Memory Effect does not occur when using NiMH batteries. When using the batteries with a device, they are completely discharged in a regulated process.

  1. Does scottyPro automatically distinguish batteries and accumulators?

scottyPro automatically recognises different battery types like NiCd-, NiMH- , RAM-

or alkaline-manganese-batteries.

  1. Is it possible to operate, i.e. charge, a device with scottyPro while he is lying in the sun?
Of course scottyPro can be used in the sun.

  2. Does this affect the life-span of the (internal) batteries?

The batteries only show the usual signs of wear. NiCd-batteries are best suited for operation at high temperatures, however, they are also the least environmentally friendly.

  1. Is it possible to operate scottyPro without the batteries as buffer, or must stay inserted during operation?

The buffer batteries are necessary as most small electronic devices have a high electricity demand. This demand cannot be met by solar cells at all, or only with excellent light conditions. Conventional 3V devices, e.g. walkman, can be operated without buffer batteries in intense sun light.

  1. Is it possible to insert other batteries, e.g. 1.2V instead of 1.5V?

Of course, the important thing is to make sure that the inserted batteries have the voltage.

  1. Which battery types can be used?

scottyPro can charge 2 AA-, i.e. Mignon-cells of all battery types: RAM cells, NiCd-batteries,NiMH-batteries. Additionally AAA- or micro cells can be charged,i.e operated, with an adapter available from SOLARC.

  1. Why doesn’t scottyPro fully charge mobile phones?

The batteries of mobile phones have a much higher capacity than those in scottyPro.

10.
Can the universal 3V-cable be used for all small electronic devices?

  1. What does it mean, if the display “charging battery” on the mobile phone only flashes once?

Either the battery in scottyPro is almost empty or the battery in the mobile phone is fully charged. If neither is the case, possibly a wrong cable is being used.

  1. Why doesn’t the LED-display blink, even though the batteries are fully charged, when the cable is connected to scottyPro?

In this case either the cable or scottyPro is defect.

  1. Is there a faster way of charging batteries?

Yes, with an additional module. The charging time is reduced to about 25-30%!

Important: RAM cells cannot be charged with this additional module, danger of overcharging!

  1. Which mistakes can I make before starting scottyPro?

Inserting the batteries with wrong polarity will destroy scottyPro’s electronics within minutes.
